Welcome to Sporting Select

Formerly the West Florida Soccer Club Competitive Program

Sporting Select is the next evolution of our competitive program. Same heart, same mission — now aligned under the Sporting name.

Designed for committed players ages U9–U19, Sporting Select challenges athletes to grow not only as players, but as people — at home, at school, and on the field.

It’s about more than just winning games. We’re building leaders, teammates, and competitors who thrive under pressure, embrace challenges, and bring passion to everything they do.

What You Need to Know

Pathways Within Sporting

All players who register and attend tryouts may be selected for a Sporting Select team, based in Pace, FL. From there, players also have opportunities to try out for teams across the broader Sporting Club network, including NPL, ECNL-RL, and ECNL. These additional pathways are open to all eligible players through separate tryouts and are based on performance, positional needs, and team fit.

Sporting Select (Sporting West Florida)

All selected players train and compete with their Sporting Select teams based in Pace. This is the home base for our U9–U19 competitive teams.

NPL (Sporting Tallahassee)

Open to U13–U19 players across the Sporting Club network. Players may attend NPL tryouts and, if selected, participate in matches and events as part of the Sporting Tallahassee NPL teams.

ECNL-RL (Sporting Tallahassee)

U13–U19 players may attend ECNL-RL tryouts. Selected players will represent Sporting Tallahassee in ECNL Regional League matches and events. These players will continue training with their Sporting Select team in Pace, but ECNL-RL matches take scheduling priority.

ECNL (Sporting JAX)

ECNL tryouts are open to all eligible players. Those selected will compete with Sporting JAX in the ECNL. This is the highest level of league play within the Sporting Club pathway.

Scheduling Priorities

When players participate in multiple programs, events are prioritized in the following order:

  1. ECNL
  2. ECNL-RL
  3. NPL
  4. Tournaments, showcases, and friendlies

This structure allows motivated players to grow within the Sporting network while maintaining clear expectations and minimizing conflicts.

Is Sporting Select Right for My Player?

Sporting Select is a great fit for players and families who are:

  • Looking for a more competitive and challenging soccer environment
  • Ready to commit to regular training and weekend matches
  • Focused on long-term development — not just short-term results
  • Supportive of their child being pushed to grow both as a player and a person

If this sounds like your athlete, we’d love to see them at tryouts.

What to Know About Sporting’s NPL

Sporting’s NPL teams are based in Tallahassee and compete in the National Premier Leagues (NPL), a regional competition platform that provides a high level of play and player development.

Participation in NPL is invitation-only, based on in-season performance, positional needs, and player availability. Players must first be placed on a Sporting Select team through the standard tryout process before being eligible for NPL roster consideration.

NPL game weekends generally include one match on Saturday and one on Sunday. Travel is regional, with the longest drive from Pace typically no more than 3 hours. Matches may take place in Tallahassee or against opponents from surrounding areas in the panhandle and northern Florida.

NPL serves as a developmental step between local Select play and the more intensive ECNL-RL schedule. It offers additional game experience, exposure, and opportunities for motivated players without the full statewide travel commitment required by ECNL-RL.

What to Know About Sporting’s ECNL-RL

Sporting’s ECNL-RL teams are based in Tallahassee and compete in the Elite Clubs National League – Regional League, a top-tier platform for regional competition and college exposure.

Players must try out for ECNL-RL, and those selected will represent Sporting Tallahassee during ECNL-RL league weekends while continuing to train with their Sporting Select team in Pace.

League competition includes clubs from Orlando, Jacksonville, Winter Springs, Tampa, Odessa, and Largo, with game weekends typically consisting of one match on Saturday and one on Sunday. The longest drive from Pace to an opponent may be up to 7 hours, and families should expect multiple travel weekends throughout the season.

ECNL-RL includes a full league season with results that affect standings, postseason qualification, and potential invitations to national-level ECNL events. Participation requires a higher level of time, financial, and travel commitment compared to standard Select or NPL programming.

Welcome to Sporting Select

Sporting Select is the competitive soccer program of West Florida Soccer Club, designed for players ready to train and compete at a higher level. Formerly known as WFSC Competitive, we remain committed to individual development, team culture, and long-term success—on and off the field.

What is Competitive Soccer?

Competitive soccer offers a structured, development-focused environment. Players improve technical skills like dribbling and passing, and develop tactical understanding such as movement and decision-making. Coaching is consistent, intentional, and personalized to help each player reach their potential.

What Makes Sporting Select Different?

We are a family-first club where coaches know every player by name. Our coaching staff includes more USSF-licensed coaches per player than any club in our area. We focus on developing confident, creative players—not just chasing results. While we may be smaller than big-city clubs, we deliver a high-quality experience with a strong sense of community.

Why Is It a 10-Month Program?

Soccer takes time and consistency to master. Long breaks can slow a player’s development. Our August through May season provides the continuity needed for players to build skills, confidence, and long-term success.

Expanded Player Pathways

As part of our alignment with Sporting JAX and Sporting Tallahassee, Sporting Select players now have access to advanced competitive platforms including the National Premier League (NPL), ECNL Regional League (ECNL-RL), and Elite Clubs National League (ECNL). These leagues offer a higher level of year-round competition, greater exposure to college coaches, and new development opportunities beyond traditional tournament play. Players will still benefit from the local and regional tournaments we’ve historically participated in, now with more options for growth and advancement.

When are tryouts held?

Tryouts for Sporting Select take place each May. Dates are published on our website and social channels.

Who can try out?

Tryouts are open to players ages 8 to 18. Players are grouped into teams by birth year.

What happens during tryouts?

Players participate in drills, small-sided games, and scrimmage-based evaluations. Coaches assess technical ability, attitude, effort, and coachability.

What if my child can't attend tryouts?

If your child cannot attend the scheduled tryout, email info@sportingwestflorida.com to request an individual evaluation.

What if my player isn't selected?

The $250 registration fee will be fully refunded, and we will help guide you toward appropriate development options within the club.

When are team placements announced?

Team placement emails are typically sent within two weeks of the final tryout date. Players being considered for league teams may receive updates later in the summer.

Can players participate in both a league team and a Sporting Select team?

Yes. Players selected for NPL, ECNL-RL, or ECNL continue to train in Pace and participate in league play. League matches take scheduling priority.

How do league tryouts work?

ECNL-RL tryouts are held each spring in Tallahassee and are open to eligible players.

What are the costs?

The costs are comprised of the registration fee, club dues, uniform/ball costs, and tournament fees. More specific details are listed below.

What is the registration fee?

The $250 registration fee is mandatory for all players and is fully refunded if a player is not selected. This fee is separate from club dues.

What are the club dues per season (i.e. Aug-May)?

U8-U10 Teams: $1,000

U11-U14 Teams: $1,000

High School Teams (U15 and up): $810 for a shortened season (August–October, February–April)

Payment plans are available for club dues.

What’s included in club dues?

Dues cover coaching, fields, lights, referees, admin costs, and player development resources.

Are there additional costs?

Yes. Uniforms must be purchased separately through our supplier and cost approximately $150–$200. Each player also purchases a soccer ball through the club.

What about tournament fees?

Tournament fees are paid per event to the team manager. These cover the team entry and coach travel. Fees typically range from $40 to $80 per tournament depending on age group.

Season Timeline

The Sporting Select season runs from August through May.

Practice Schedule

Teams train three days per week, typically Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Practice schedules and field assignments are shared prior to the season. Optional clinics and extra training opportunities are available throughout the year.

Holiday Calendar

We follow the public school calendar and take breaks for major holidays including Thanksgiving, Winter Break, and Spring Break. Practices may still be held on shorter weekday holidays, depending on the team and coach.

Weather Cancellations

We do not make up practices canceled due to weather. However, the optional clinics and extra training opportunities provided throughout the season typically make up for any missed sessions.

Tournaments and Travel

Teams usually attend one to two tournaments per month. Tournaments are typically located in or near Pensacola, Destin, Niceville, Fort Walton Beach, Foley, Daphne, or Fairhope. Older teams may occasionally travel to Panama City or further.

How far will we travel for games?

Sporting Select teams typically play within 1–3 hours of Pace.

NPL travel is regional, with the longest trips around 3 hours.

ECNL-RL includes statewide travel, with some trips up to 7 hours each way.

Do Families Stay Overnight?

Most events are close enough to return home the same day. If an overnight stay is required, it will be communicated well in advance and is generally limited to older teams.

Typical Tournament Format

Tournaments typically consist of two games on Saturday and one or two games on Sunday, depending on team advancement. Multiple Sporting Select teams often attend the same events, creating a fun and supportive club environment for families.

Is playing time guaranteed?

No. Coaches aim to provide meaningful game minutes to all players based on attendance, effort, contribution, and development.

Why does the club use parent and player contracts?

Agreements clarify expectations for players and families. Players commit to effort, respect, and accountability. Parents agree to positive sideline behavior and appropriate communication.

Does the club support college-bound players?

Yes. Our College Prep Program provides recruiting education, highlight video support, and mentorship for players interested in college soccer.

Are sponsorship opportunities available?

Yes. Sponsorships support player scholarships, field improvements, and program growth. Contact boosters@sportingwestflorida.com for more information.
